Missing You
There have been several players who have decided to retire this off season. Among the most notable names is Derek Jeter. In 20 Major League seasons that were all spent in the Yankee pinstripes, Jeter finished with a career batting average of .310 with 260 home runs and 1311 runs batted in. Jeter also was the 1996 American League Rookie of the Year, a 14-time All Star selection, a 5-time Gold Glove winner, and a 5-time Silver Slugger winner. Jeter also won the World Series with the Yankees on five occasions. Not only was Derek Jeter great on the field, he was also great off the field. In 1996, Jeter founded the Turn 2 Foundation. This charity is to help children and teenagers avoid alcohol and/or drug addiction. It also awards these individuals based on high academic achievement. Derek Jeter is one of those players whom every baseball fan should like. Even though he spent his whole career on a controversial team, he was still a great player and is still a great person. Derek Jeter is someone whom we can all learn something from. Baseball is my favorite sport and I hate the Yankees, but I greatly respect Derek Jeter. Since he is retired, it will feel like a black hole in a way. Jeter made his Major League debut in 1995 and has been there since 2014. Derek Jeter is a huge part of the game. Hopefully some player will be able to fill that void in the future.
