Padres Acquire Kimbrel, Upton in Seven-Player Deal

The San Diego Padres acquired pitcher Craig Kimbrel and outfielder Melvin Upton from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for outfielders Cameron Maybin, Carlos Quentin, and Jordan Paroubek, pitcher Matt Wisler, and the 41st overall draft pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. Kimbrel, 26, has pitched in 294 career games for the Braves. He has a career record of (15-10) with a 1.43 ERA and 186 saves. He is a four-time All Star selection and he was named the 2011 National League Rookie of the Year. Upton, 30, has played in 1233 career games for the Tampa Bay Rays and the Braves. He has a career batting average of .243 with 139 home runs and 508 runs batted in. Maybin, 28, has played in 561 career games for the Tigers, Marlins, and Padres. He has a career batting average of .246 with 32 home runs and 150 runs batted in. Quentin, 32, has played in 834 career games for the Diamondbacks, White Sox, and Padres. He has a career batting average of .252 with 154 home runs and 491 runs batted in. He is a two-time All Star selection and he won a Silver Slugger Award in 2008. Paroubek, 20, spent the 2014 season with the Arizona League Padres. In 34 games, he hit .286 with four home runs and 24 runs batted in. Wisler, 22, split the 2014 season with Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso. In 28 games, he compiled a record of (10-5) with a 4.42 ERA.
