White Sox Acquire Jeff Samardzija
The Chicago White Sox acquired pitchers Jeff Samardzija (first) and Michael Ynoa (second) from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for pitcher Chris Bassitt, catcher Josh Phegley (third), and infielders Marcus Semien (fourth) and Rangel Ravelo. Samardzija, 30 in January, has pitched in 222 career games for the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics. He has a career record of (36-48) with a 3.85 ERA and one save. He has also pitched five complete games with one of them being a shutout. He was selected to his first All Star Game in 2014. Ynoa, 23, spent the 2014 season with Class-A Stockton. In 31 games, he compiled a record of (4-2) with a 5.52 ERA. Bassitt, 26 in February, made his Major League debut with the White Sox in 2014. In six games, he compiled a record of (1-1) with a 3.94 ERA. Phegley, 27 in February, spent parts of the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the White Sox. In 76 career games, he has a batting average of .207 with seven home runs and 29 runs batted in. Semien, 24, spent parts of the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the White Sox. In 85 career games, he has a batting average of .240 with eight home runs and 35 runs batted in. Ravelo, 22, spent the 2014 season with Double-A Birmingham. In 133 games, he hit .309 with 11 home runs and 66 runs batted in.
