Ryan Dempster Retires, Joins Cubs Front Office

Pitcher Ryan Dempster has retired. The 37-year-old Canadian pitcher appeared in 579 career games for the Marlins, Reds, Cubs, Rangers, and Red Sox. He compiled a career record of (132-133) with a 4.35 ERA and 87 saves. He has also pitched 11 career complete games with three of them being shutouts. He was a 2000 All Star selection as a member of the Marlins and a 2008 All Star Selection as a member of the Cubs. Dempster will now be the special assistant to president Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer.
