Padres Sign Two to Minors Deals
The San Diego Padres signed pitchers Jose Valverde and Scott Elbert to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training. Valverde, 36, has pitched in 626 career games for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers, and New York Mets. He has a career record of (27-33) with a 3.27 ERA and 288 saves. He is a three-time All Star. Elbert, 29, has pitched in 127 career games for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has a career record of (4-3) with a 3.54 ERA and two saves.
