Padres Sign Josh Johnson, Designate Jake Goebbert for Assignment

The San Diego Padres signed pitcher Josh Johnson to a one-year contract worth $1 million plus incentives. Johnson, 31 on January 31, has pitched in 170 career games for the Marlins and Blue Jays. He has a career record of (58-45) with a 3.40 ERA. He also has pitched four complete games in his Major League career. He is also a two-time All Star selection as a member of the Marlins. To make room, the Padres designated outfielder Jake Goebbert for assignment. Goebbert, 27, made his Major League debut with the Padres in 2014. In 51 games, he hit .218 with one home run and 10 runs batted in.
