Pirates Designate Two for Assignment
The Pittsburgh Pirates designated pitcher Chris Volstad and outfielder Jose Tabata for assignment. Volstad, 28, has pitched in 131 career games for the Marlins, Cubs, Rockies, and Pirates. He has a career record of (35-51) with a 4.92 ERA. He has pitched three complete games in his career and two of them were shutouts. Tabata, 26, has played in 509 career games for the Pirates. He has a career batting average of .275 with 17 home runs and 126 runs batted in.
