Blue Jays Acquire Michael Saunders, Sign Justin Smoak

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder Michael Saunders from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for pitcher J.A. Happ. Saunders, 28, has played in 553 career games with the Mariners. He has a career batting average of .231 with 51 home runs and 182 runs batted in. Happ, 32, has pitched in 164 career games for the Phillies, Astros, and Blue Jays. He has compiled a career record of (51-53) with a 4.24 ERA. He has also pitched four complete games with three of them being shutouts. The Blue Jays also signed first baseman Justin Smoak to a one-year contract. Smoak, who was non-tendered by the Blue Jays yesterday, will make $1 million in 2015.
