Dodgers Claim Lavarnway, Designate Butera
The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed catcher Ryan Lavarnway off waivers from the Boston Red Sox. Lavarnway, 27, has played in 97 career games with the Red Sox. He has a career batting average of .201 with five home runs and 34 runs batted in. To make room, the Dodgers designated catcher Drew Butera for assignment. Butera, 31, has played in 251 career games with the Minnesota Twins and Dodgers. He has a career batting average of .183 with eight home runs and 55 runs batted in.
