Pirates Acquire Sean Rodriguez
The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder Sean Rodriguez from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Rodriguez, 29, has played in 624 career games for the Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays. He has a career batting average of .225 with 45 home runs and 186 runs batted in. To make room, the Pirates designated first baseman Gaby Sanchez for assignment. Sanchez, 31, has played in 700 career games with the Marlins and Pirates. He has a career batting average of .254 with 61 home runs and 266 runs batted in. He was a 2011 All Star Selection as a member of the Marlins.
