Cubs Claim Britton Off Waivers, Designate Germen for Assignment

The Chicago Cubs claimed pitcher Drake Britton off waivers from the Boston Red Sox. Britton, 25, spent parts of the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the Red Sox. In 25 games, he compiled a record of (1-1) with a 2.93 ERA. To make room, the Cubs designated pitcher Gonzalez Germen for assignment. Germen, 27, spent parts of the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the New York Mets. In 54 games, he compiled a record of (1-2) with a 4.31 ERA and one save.
