The Los Angeles Angels acquired outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations. Nieuwenhuis, 27, has played in 226 career games for the Mets. He has a career batting average of .230 with 13 home runs and 60 runs batted in. To make room, the Angels designated pitcher Chad Smith for assignment.
