Phillies Sign Seven to Minors Contracts
The Philadelphia Phillies signed infielders Andres Blanco, Russ Canzler, and Chase d'Arnaud and outfielders Brian Bogusevic, Jeff Francoeur, Darin Mastroianni, and Xavier Paul to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training. Blanco, 30, has played 260 games with the Kansas City Royals, Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, and Philadelphia Phillies. He has a career batting average of .257 with four home runs and 50 runs batted in. Canzler, 28, has played 29 games with the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians. He has a career batting average of .271 with three home runs and 12 runs batted in. Chase d'Arnuad, 28 in January, spent parts of three seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 64 career games, d'Arnaud has a batting average of .208 with no home runs and seven runs batted in. Bogusevic, 31 in February, has played in 299 games with the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs. He has a career batting average of .236 with 17 home runs and 62 runs batted in. Francoeur, 31 in January, has played in 1237 games with the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants, and San Diego Padres. Francoeur has a career batting average of .262 with 140 home runs and 619 runs batted in. Mastroianni has played in 129 games with the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins. He has a career batting average of .212 with four home runs and 24 runs batted in. Xavier Paul has a career batting average of .250 with 12 home runs and 71 RBI in 349 career games with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, and Arizona Diamondbacks.
