Pirates Sign Five to Minors Deals

The Pittsburgh Pirates signed pitchers Blake Wood, Collin Balester, Deolis Guerra, and Jeremy Bleich and infielder Gustavo Nunez to minor league contracts. Wood, 29, has pitched in 115 games with the Royals and Indians. He has compiled a record of (6-7) with a 4.39 ERA and one save. Balester, 28, has pitched in 73 career games with the Nationals and Tigers. He has a career record of (7-16) with a 5.30 ERA. Bleich, 27, spent the 2014 season in the Yankees' farm system. In 26 games, Bleich compiled a record of (5-10) with a 4.31 ERA. Guerra, 25, spent the 2014 season with the Rochester Red Wings, the Minnesota Twins' Triple-A affiliate. In 36 games, Guerra compiled a record of (2-2) with a 4.33 ERA. Nunez, 27 in February, spent the 2014 season with the Mississippi Braves, the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. In 97 games, Nunez hit .301 with two home runs and 31 runs batted in.
