Two Former Pirates on the 2015 Hall of Fame Ballot
Former Pirates pitcher Jason Schmidt and outfielder Brian Giles are on the 2015 Hall of Fame ballot for the first time. Schmidt, no relation to me, pitched in 323 career games with the Atlanta Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He has a career record of (130-96) with a 3.96 ERA. The 41-year-old pitched 20 complete games with nine of them being shutouts. Schmidt also was a three-time All Star selection. Giles, 44 in January, played in 1847 career games with the Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, and San Diego Padres. He has a career batting average of .291 with 287 home runs and 1078 runs batted in. He was a two-time All Star as a member of the Pirates. Though there are many other great players on the Hall of Fame ballot, congratulations and good luck to both players!
