Pirates Announce 2014 Minor League Free Agents
The Pirates have announced that they have 31 players who are now minor league free agents. Some of the notable names on the list of players are pitchers John Axford, Jeanmar Gomez, and Kyle McPherson, as well as infielder Chase d'Arnaud. Axford, 31, pitched in 13 games with the Pirates in 2014 after he was claimed off waivers from the Cleveland Indians. In his brief stint with the Pirates, Axford compiled a record of (0-1) with a 4.09 ERA. Gomez, 27 in February, spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the Pirates. In 78 games pitched with the Pirates, Gomez compiled a record of (5-2) while also recording a save. McPherson made his Major League debut with the Pirates in 2012 and was never able to make it back into the Majors due to injury. In 10 games as a Pirate, McPherson compiled a record of (0-2) with a 2.73 ERA. Chase d'Arnaud spent parts of three seasons with the Pirates. In 64 career games, d'Arnaud has a batting average of .208 with no home runs and seven runs batted in.
