Blue Jays Sign Martin
Photo of Russell Martin
The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a five-year contract with catcher Russell Martin. He will make $82 million during his time with Toronto. Martin, who was born in Toronto, has appeared in 1163 career games with the Dodgers, Yankees, and Pirates. In his career, the 31-year-old catcher has a batting average of .259 with 119 home runs and 540 runs batted in. Martin is also a three-time All Star selection and has won a Rawling's Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger Award in 2007. This is a true surprise to me, as I had previously read that the Chicago Cubs were the front-runners for Martin. Anyways, I would like to wish the best of luck to Russell Martin and congratulations to all Blue Jays fans. You will really love this guy.
