Astros Acquire Evan Gattis in Five-Player Trade

The Houston Astros acquired catcher Evan Gattis (left) and pitcher James Hoyt from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for infielder Rio Ruiz and pitchers Michael Foltynewicz (right) and Andrew Thurman. Gattis, 28, has played in 213 career games for the Braves. He has a career batting average of .253 with 43 home runs and 117 runs batted in. Hoyt, 28, split the 2014 season with Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett. In 52 games, he compiled a record of (3-3) with a 3.17 ERA and seven saves. Ruiz, 20, spent the 2014 season with Class-A Lancaster. In 131 games, he hit .293 with 11 home runs and 77 runs batted in. Foltynewicz, 23, made his Major League debut with the Astros in 2014. In 16 games, he compiled a record of (0-1) with a 5.30 ERA. Thurman, also 23, spent the 2014 season with Class-A Quad Cities. In 26 games, he compiled a record of (7-9) with a 5.38 ERA and one save.
