Athletics, Nationals Swap Escobar, Clippard

The Washington Nationals acquired infielder Yunel Escobar from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for pitcher Tyler Clippard. Escobar, 32, has played in 1074 career games for the Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays, and Tampa Bay Rays. He has a career batting average of .276 with 69 home runs and 393 runs batted in. He had just been acquired by the Athletics in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays this past weekend. Clippard, 30 in February, has pitched in 420 career games for the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals. He has a career record of (37-25) with a 2.88 ERA and 34 saves. He is a two-time All Star.
