Rangers Acquire Cole Hamels in Eight-Player Trade

The Texas Rangers acquired pitchers Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for pitchers Matt Harrison, Jake Thompson, Alec Asher, Jerad Eickhoff, catcher Jorge Alfaro, and outfielder Nick Williams. Hamels, 31, has pitched in 295 career games for the Phillies. He has a career record of (114-90) with a 3.30 ERA. He has pitched 14 complete games in his career and seven of them have been shutouts. He is a three-time All Star selection and he won the World Series with the Phillies in the 2008 season. That same season, he was the MVP of the National League Championship Series and the World Series. Diekman, 28, has pitched in 191 career games for the Phillies. He has a career record of (9-11) with a 3.84 ERA. Harrison, 29, has pitched in 135 career games for the Rangers. He has a career record of (50-35) with a 4.21 ERA and two saves. He has pitched seven complete games in his career and four of them have been shutouts. He was selected to his first All Star Game in the 2012 season. Thompson, 21, has compiled a record of (6-6) with a 4.72 ERA in 17 games with Double-A Frisco this season. Asher, 23, has split this season with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. In 20 games, he has compiled a record of (4-10) with a 4.43 ERA. Eickhoff, 25, has also split this season with Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. In 19 games, he has compiled a record of (9-4) with a 4.30 ERA. Alfaro, 22, hit .253 with five home runs and 21 RBI in 49 games with Double-A Frisco this season. Williams, 21, hit .300 with 13 home runs and 45 RBI in 96 games with Double-A Frisco this season.
