The Royals are Headed to the World Series
After winning the World Series in 1985 and failing to qualify for a playoff berth for 28 years, the Kansas City Royals are headed back to the Fall Classic. Their magical playoff run started with a thrilling comeback win over the Oakland Athletics in the American League Wild Card Game. Then, the Royals advanced to the American League Division Series to face the heavily-favored Los Angeles Angels. The Royals won Games 1 and 2 in Los Angeles in eleven innings and returned to Kansas City to sweep the Angels in three games. With the Baltimore Orioles completing a three-game sweep over the Detroit Tigers, the Orioles and Royals advanced to the American League Championship Series. After winning Games 1 and 2 in Baltimore, the Royals returned to Kansas City with a 2-0 series lead. Royals outfielder Jarrod Dyson was quoted as saying that the series would not be headed back to Baltimore. He was correct. The Royals proceeded to sweep the Orioles in four games to advance to the World Series. While it is unknown whether the Royals will face the San Francisco Giants or St. Louis Cardinals, every Royals player and fan should be excited to hopefully see their team bring home a World Series Championship.
