Game 5 Recap
With the series tied at two games apiece, both the Royals and Giants were looking to take a series lead before the series moves to Kansas City. James Shields took the mound for the Royals and Madison Bumgarner opposed him for the Giants. After a scoreless first inning, the Giants took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when shortstop Brandon Crawford hit an RBI groundout to bring in Hunter Pence. In the bottom of fourth inning, Brandon Crawford hit an RBI single to increase the Giants' lead to 2-0. The scored remained the same until the bottom of the eighth inning when Juan Perez hit a two-run double to increase the lead to 4-0. Then, Brandon Crawford continued his big night with an RBI single to make the score 5-0. The score held true and the Giants won Game 5 to take a 3-2 series advantage for a chance to win it all in Game 6. The big story from tonight's game was Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner. Bumgarner, who had pitched seven innings of one-run ball in the Giants Game 1 victory, threw a complete game shutout and only gave up four hits. Bumgarner has had a phenomenal postseason and could very well be the MVP assuming the Giants win the World Series. Game 6 will be played on Tuesday in Kansas City. Yordano Ventura will get the start for the Royals and Jake Peavy will take the hill for the Giants in an attempt to secure the Giants' third World Series title in five years.
