No Surgery Necessary

It has just been announced that Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez will not require surgery on his foot. Alvarez had missed a good chunk of time due to a stress fracture in his left foot. Alvarez appeared in 122 games this season and compiled a .231 batting average to go along with 18 home runs and 56 runs batted in. The 27-year-old third baseman struggled defensively this season, as he committed 25 errors. Pirates management worked with him at first base where he appeared for five games. Due to his struggles, All Star infielder Josh Harrison took over. Alvarez is up for salary arbitration this winter and will be looking to make a lot of money. There has also been talk that he could wind up in Boston. It will be interesting to see what happens this off season for both Pedro Alvarez and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

  1. Do you think the Pirates should not resign Pedro Alvarez? After all he is coming off of a bad year, and he is probably going to want more money than he is already getting paid. Do you think it is worth it to pay Alvarez more when he didn't earn his pay this year? Also, Harrison seemed to be doing a good job this year taking over for Alvarez. I think Harrison should get a pay raise and we should get rid of Alvarez.

    1. In all honesty, I do not believe that Pedro Alvarez should be back. I think they should trade him to either the Boston Red Sox or Toronto Blue Jays. I think a trade would help his career. Maybe the Red Sox could acquire him and make him their designated hitter. David Ortiz is nearing the end. Also, I have been saying that the Pirates should trade Alvarez for pitcher Joe Kelly and another player.
