Pirates Prospects Headed to Fall All Star Game
Pirates pitcher Adrian Sampson, catcher Elias Diaz, and first baseman Josh Bell were selected to the Arizona Fall League Fall Stars Game. Sampson, 23, was the Pirates' fifth round draft selection in 2012 Major League Baseball Draft. Sampson spent a bulk of the 2014 season in Double-A Altoona Curve, but was promoted later in the season to Triple-A Indianapolis Indians. In 28 games with the Curve and Indians, Sampson compiled a record of (11-6) and also recorded two complete games, one of them being a shutout. Elias Diaz, 24 on November 17, also spent 2014 with the Curve and Indians. In 101 games played, Diaz recorded a combined batting average of .312 with six home runs and 54 runs batted in. Josh Bell, 22, was the Pirates second round draft pick in 2011. Bell split the 2014 season with the Single-A Bradenton Marauders and Altoona Curve. In 108 games, Bell recorded a combined batting average of .325 with nine home runs and 60 runs batted in.
