More Players Elect Free Agency
Five players have just declared free agency. First baseman Jesus Guzman, who appeared with the Houston Astros in 2014, refused an outright assignment and became a free agent. Guzman, 30, has appeared in 403 games with the San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, and Houston Astros while recording a batting average of .247 with 25 home runs and 136 runs batted in. Giants second baseman Tony Abreu has also declared free agency. Abreu has appeared in 224 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, and San Francisco Giants. In his career, Abreu has record a .254 batting average with six home runs and 60 runs batted in. Cord Phelps, who appeared briefly for the Orioles in 2014, declared free agency. Phelps has appeared in 56 games with the Cleveland Indians and Baltimore Orioles while recording a batting average of .155 with two home runs and elevens runs batted in. Pedro Hernandez has left the Colorado Rockies system to become a free agent. Hernandez has spent parts of three seasons with the Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins, and Colorado Rockies. In sixteen games pitched, Hernandez has compiled a record of (3-5) with an earned run average of 7.33. Cesar Cabral, a left-handed pitcher who spent parts of two seasons with the New York Yankees, has declared free agency. Cabral pitched in 12 games, but did not receive a decision. Cabral did compiled a 7.71 ERA during his brief tenure with the Yankees.

  1. Each of these five players seem to have pretty extensive on the field resumes entering free agency. Their careers in the MLB have the potential to take them to any team, hopefully they have successful seasons in whichever city that may be.
