Baltimore Orioles Plans
The Baltimore Orioles announced that they are planning on extending a qualifying offer to impending free agent Nelson Cruz. In 159 games this season, Cruz finished with a batting average of .271 with 40 home runs and 108 runs batted in. On top of these statistics, Cruz attended the 2014 All Star Game for his third All Star Game selection. The Orioles also announced that they are planning to decline the option of outfielder Nick Markakis. Markakis, who would make $17.5 million with the option, appeared in 155 regular season games with a .276 batting average, 14 home runs, and 50 runs batted in. In his nine seasons as a member of the Orioles, Markakis has played in 1365 games while recording a batting average of .290 with 141 home runs and 658 runs batted in. Also, Markakis won a Rawlings Gold Glove in 2011.
