Pirates Update

Pirates announced that outfielder Jose Tabata has accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis. The 26-year-old outfielder appeared in 80 games with the Pirates in the 2014 campaign. He registered a .282 batting average to go along with 0 home runs and only 17 runs batted in. Tabata spent some time with Indianapolis as well. In other news, catcher Russell Martin said that he would be interested in joining the Boston Red Sox. If the Pirates fail to re-sign the veteran catcher, Boston would make a lot of sense. Even though the Red Sox have Christian Vazquez, who has a bright future ahead of him, the Red Sox are lacking in a true starting catcher. Ryan Lavarnway and Dan Butler have minimal Major League experience and David Ross is about to become a free agent. The Red Sox most likely will not be interested in bringing back Ross because of the fact that he is 37 and that his best playing days are behind him. It will be interesting to see what happens once the playoffs are over.
