Pirates' Busy Day
Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired infielder Justin Sellers from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for cash considerations. Sellers has appeared in 99 games with the Indians and the Los Angeles Dodgers and has recorded a batting average of .198 with three home runs and seventeen runs batted in. The Pirates also designated pitchers John Axford and Jeanmar Gomez. Gomez, who is eligible for salary arbitration, pitched in 44 games with the Pirates in 2014 where he compiled a record of (2-2) with a 3.19 ERA and one save. Axford, also eligible for arbitration, appeared in thirteen games with the Pirates after he was claimed off waivers from the Indians in August. In his brief tenure with the Pirates, Axford compiled a record of (0-1) with a 4.09 ERA. Pirates also reinstated pitcher Charlie Morton from the 60-day disabled list. Morton, whose 2014 season was plagued by injury, compiled a record of (6-12) with a 3.72 ERA in 26 games.
