Game 3 Recap
The San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals traded wins in the first two games in Kansas City. The World Series moved to Game 3 in San Francisco. Jeremy Guthrie got the start for the Royals against Tim Hudson of the Giants. In the top of the first inning, Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain gave his team a 1-0 lead with an RBI single that drove in shortstop Alcides Escobar. The score remained the same until the top of the sixth inning when Royals outfielder Alex Gordon hit an RBI double to expand the lead to 2-0. Two batters later, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer hit an RBI single to increase the Royals lead to 3-0. Then, it was the Giants' turn. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Michael Morse put the Giants on the board with a pinch-hit RBI double to cut the Royals lead to 3-1. Three batters later, Giants catcher Buster Posey hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 3-2. Both bullpens pitched well in the seventh and eighth innings. In the top of the ninth, Royals closer Greg Holland came in to face Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, and Hunter Pence. Holland was able to get Posey to fly out to left field for the first out. Then, Sandoval hit a ground ball back to Holland who threw to first base for the second out. The Giants last hope was Hunter Pence. Pence suffered a similar fate as Sandoval. Pence hit a grounder back to Holland who tossed the ball to first baseman Eric Hosmer to seal the victory. This win puts the Royals ahead in the series 2-1. Game 4 will be played tomorrow. Left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas will get the start for the Royals and former Pirates pitcher Ryan Vogelsong will get the ball for the Giants.
