Rays, Nationals, Padres Make Three-Team Trade

The San Diego Padres acquired outfielder Wil Myers, catcher Ryan Hanigan, and pitchers Gerardo Reyes and Jose Castillo from the Tampa Bay Rays. Myers, 24, has played in 175 career games for the Rays. He has a career batting average of .258 with 19 home runs and 88 runs batted in. He was the 2013 American League Rookie of the Year. Hanigan, 34, has played in 558 career games for the Cincinnati Reds and the Rays. He has a career batting average of .256 with 25 home runs and 172 runs batted in. Reyes, 21, spent the 2014 season with Class-A Hudson Valley. In 20 games, he compiled a record of (2-1) with a 4.09 ERA and three saves. Castillo, 19 in January, spent the 2014 season with the Gulf Coast League Rays. In three games, he did not register a decision, but he had a 3.86 ERA. The Tampa Bay Rays acquired pitcher Burch Smith, catcher Rene Rivera, and first baseman Jake Bauers from the Padres. Smith, 24, made his Major League debut with the Padres in 2013. In 10 games, he compiled a record of (1-3) with a 6.44 ERA. Rivera, 31, has played in 224 career games for the Seattle Mariners, Minnesota Twins, and San Diego Padres. He has a career batting average of .228 with 15 home runs and 66 runs batted in. Bauers, 19, spent the 2014 season with Class-A Fort Wayne. In 112 games, he hit .296 with eight home runs and 64 runs batted in. The Rays also acquired outfielder Steven Souza and pitcher Travis Ott from the Nationals. Souza, 25, made his Major League debut with the Nationals in 2014. In 21 games, he hit .130 with two home runs and two runs batted in. Ott, 19, split the 2014 season with Class-A Auburn and Class-A Hagerstown. In 13 games, he compiled a record of (1-4) with a 3.93 ERA. The Nationals acquired pitcher Joe Ross and infielder Trea Turner from the Padres. Ross, 21, split the 2014 season with Class-A Lake Elsinore and Double-A San Antonio. In 23 games, he compiled a record of (10-6) with a 3.92 ERA. Turner, also 21, split the 2014 season with Class-A Eugene and Class-A Fort Wayne. In 69 games, he hit .323 with five home runs and 24 runs batted in.
