Padres, Red Sox Swap Hanigan, Middlebrooks

The San Diego Padres acquired infielder Will Middlebrooks from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for catcher Ryan Hanigan, who was just acquired in a trade from the Tampa Bay Rays. Middlebrooks, 26, has played in 232 career games for the Red Sox. He has a career batting average of .237 with 34 home runs and 122 runs batted in. He won the World Series with the Red Sox in 2013. Hanigan, 34, has played in 558 career games for the Reds and Rays. He has a career batting average of .256 with 25 home runs and 172 runs batted in.
