Royals Sign Kris Medlen, Designate Johnny Giavotella
The Kansas City Royals signed pitcher Kris Medlen to a two-year contract with an option for the 2017 season. Medlen, 29, has pitched in 152 career games for the Atlanta Braves. He has a career record of (34-20) with a 2.95 ERA and one save. He also pitched two complete games with one of them being a shutout. To make room, the Royals designated infielder Johnny Giavotella for assignment. Giavotella, 27, has played in 125 career games for the Royals. He has a career batting average of .238 with four home runs and 45 runs batted in.
